These four airports don't share much geography, but they share an arrival pattern: prearranged transport dramatically outperforms walking outside and trying your luck. Here's what each actually costs and how to do it right.

## Lusaka (LUN)

[Kenneth Kaunda International](/airports/lun-lusaka) is 25 km from central Lusaka. Airport taxis have a fixed ZMW 350–450 fare (about $15–20) to the city. Uber and Bolt both work at LUN and are typically ZMW 200–300. Confirm the taxi rate at the coordinator's desk before choosing a car.

## Harare (HRE)

[Robert Gabriel Mugabe International](/airports/hre-harare) is 12 km from the CBD. There is no ride-hail — the airport taxi rank has fixed fares of $25–35 posted at the exit. Rhodes Nyanga shuttle vans do runs to the main hotels for $10 shared. USD is the working currency; do not accept ZWL for anything if you can help it.

## Kinshasa (FIH)

[N'djili International](/airports/fih-kinshasa) is 25 km from central Kinshasa but the drive can take 60–90 minutes in traffic. Prearrange your hotel transfer — full stop. This is not an airport to walk out of and hail a car. Expect $40–60 for the transfer. If you must use an airport taxi, agree $50 before you get in, and take a licensed car from the marked rank only.

## Djibouti (JIB)

[Djibouti–Ambouli](/airports/jib-djibouti) is only 6 km from the city. Taxis at the rank are DJF 2,000–3,000 (about $12–17) to Djibouti Ville. No apps. Cards not accepted — have small DJF or USD notes.

## Universal rules

- Prearranged hotel transfer costs $10–20 more and buys the entire "unknown airport at night" problem away.

- Withdraw local currency at the airport ATM before leaving; card acceptance in taxis is zero.

- Never let anyone outside the marked taxi zone carry your bags to a car.
