Everyone tells you to use Grab. It's the safe answer — but not always the smart one. Here's how the two options actually compare at Suvarnabhumi.

## Public metered taxi from the official rank

Head to **Level 1, Gate 4 or 7** (arrivals is on Level 2 — you have to go down). Take a ticket from the dispatch kiosk, then wait in the numbered bay.

- Meter fare Sukhumvit / Silom: **250–350 THB**

- Airport surcharge: **50 THB flat**

- Tolls (paid by you, in cash to driver): **50–75 THB**

- **Total: 350–475 THB (US$10–13)**

The dispatcher writes your taxi number on the ticket. Keep it — that's your leverage if anything goes wrong.

## Grab from BKK

- GrabCar to Sukhumvit: **450–650 THB** off-peak, **700–900 THB** during rain or rush hour

- You still pay tolls

- Pickup point: Level 2 door 3 or Level 4 departures (do NOT wait at arrivals curb — Grab drivers get fined)

## The verdict

**Public taxi wins on price** almost every time. Grab wins if:

- You don't speak Thai and want the address handled in-app

- It's 2am and the taxi queue is 40 minutes long

- You're going somewhere obscure (drivers may refuse the fare)

## The one trick that changes everything

The **Airport Rail Link** from BKK to Phaya Thai is **45 THB** and takes 26 minutes. From Phaya Thai, take BTS or a short 60 THB taxi to your hotel. Total: under 150 THB. If you have hand luggage only and it's not past 24:00 (when the ARL stops), this beats both options.

## Scams to watch

Drivers approaching you inside arrivals offering "flat 800 baht meter broken" are not the official rank. Refuse. See our full [Suvarnabhumi guide](/airports/bkk-bangkok).
