## The one rule at KHI: never take a curbside taxi

Jinnah International (KHI) has a serious tout problem at arrivals. Men in lanyards, men without lanyards, men holding a random hotel sign — all will offer you a 'taxi' at 3–5x the fair rate. Walk past every single one of them.

## What to do instead

- **Careem or inDrive** — both work at KHI. Book from inside the terminal, walk to the designated ride-hailing pickup zone (signposted, ~5 min from arrivals).
- **Pre-paid taxi booth** — inside arrivals, official yellow counter. Slightly more expensive than Careem but the fare is fixed and printed on the coupon.
- **Hotel pickup** — the safest option if you're arriving late. Confirm the driver's name and license plate in writing before you land.

## Common Karachi airport scams

1. **Fake 'official taxi' lanyards.** Real airport taxi staff stay behind the pre-paid counter, not at the curb.
2. **'Your Careem cancelled'** — a tout claiming your booked ride bailed. Ignore, check the app.
3. **'Hotel is closed / moved'** — an old classic to divert you to a commission hotel.
4. **Meter running 'the long way'** — always confirm the route on your phone before departure.

- To Clifton / DHA: PKR 1,500–2,500 by Careem
- To Saddar / city center: PKR 1,200–2,000
- To Bahria Town: PKR 3,000–4,500

Anything materially higher and you're being scammed.
