# Leaving Sydney Airport (SYD): the cheapest and fastest way out

Sydney Airport (SYD) has one of the most expensive station access fees in the world tacked onto its train — around **A$17 on top of the fare**. That single fact changes the whole decision.

## The four real options

- **Airport Link train** — 13 minutes to Central. Total ~A$22 solo. Fast, but the station gate fee makes it a bad deal for 2+ people.
- **Uber / Didi / taxi** — A$45–65 to the CBD, 25–45 min depending on traffic. Rideshare pickup is on the rooftop of the P2 car park at T1 and level 1 of P3 at T2/T3.
- **Bus 400** — A$5 to Bondi Junction via Mascot. Slow (60+ min) but by far the cheapest.
- **Pre-booked shuttle** — worth it only for 3+ people going to a hotel.

## Scams and traps

Sydney is low-risk, but two things catch people: taxi drivers at the rank sometimes refuse short fares to Mascot or Alexandria (illegal — report the cab number), and the "Airport Link" ticket machines sell you a full ticket without warning you about the gate fee.
