# Lisbon airport (LIS) to city: €1.80 metro, or €12 taxi?

> Lisbon's airport is inside the metro network — three stops from Baixa. Here's when the taxi is still worth it.

Portela is one of the closest airports to a city centre in Europe. The metro literally starts inside the terminal.

## Metro Red Line (Vermelha)

**€1.80 single** (or free with a Lisboa Card) + €0.50 for a reusable Viva Viagem card. 20 min to Alameda; change to Green for Baixa/Chiado (another 10 min).

## Aerobus

Line 1 to Baixa/Cais do Sodré. **€4**. Every 20–25 min. Overkill given how cheap the metro is.

## Official taxi

Cream taxis from the marked rank outside arrivals. Metered. **€8–15 to Baixa or Bairro Alto** in normal traffic. Small luggage surcharge (€1.60 per bag). Airport surcharge of €0.80.

## Uber / Bolt / FreeNow

All three operate. Bolt and Uber often **€6–12** to central. Pickup at the designated rideshare zone on the departures level (P2), not the arrivals curb.

## Scams

Very few at LIS. Most common: taxi driver taking a "scenic" route with tourists. If it's more than 20 minutes to Baixa in normal traffic, you're being padded. See [Lisbon airport exit guide](/airports/lis-lisbon).
