# Madrid Barajas (MAD) to city: €30 flat-fare taxi, metro or Cercanías?

> Madrid's taxi flat fare is one of Europe's best deals. The metro is cheaper but requires a supplement most travellers miss.

MAD is huge (four terminals, kilometres apart). Getting to the city is easy once you know the flat-fare rule.

## Official taxi — €30 flat fare

From the marked rank outside any terminal. **€30 flat** to anywhere inside the M-30 ring (which covers the entire tourist centre and most hotels). Regulated. No surcharges. Cash or card.

Outside the M-30, the meter runs plus a €5.50 airport supplement.

## Metro Line 8

Serves T1, T2, T3 (one station) and T4 (separate station). **€4.50–5** single including the compulsory €3 airport supplement. 25 min to Nuevos Ministerios, then change to another line.

## Cercanías (C-1 suburban rail)

From T4 only. **€2.60** to Chamartín or Atocha. 25 min. Cheapest by far — but only works if you land at T4.

## Airport Express bus

Yellow "Exprés Aeropuerto" bus. 24/7. **€5** to Atocha (or Cibeles at night). Every 15–35 min. Good middle ground.

## Uber / Cabify / Bolt

All three work. Cabify is the local favourite. Prices **€25–40** to city centre off-peak. Pickup at the designated VTC zone (not the taxi rank).

## Scams

Very rare at MAD. Unlicensed touts occasionally in T1 arrivals — refuse. See our full [Madrid airport exit guide](/airports/mad-madrid).
