# Mexico City airport (MEX): authorised taxi vs Uber, and how to stay safe

> Uber pickups moved outside the terminal, authorised taxis charge fixed zone fares, and unauthorised drivers are the actual risk. Here's the current picture.

MEX is safe if you use the two legitimate options. It gets dangerous fast if you accept a ride from someone inside the terminal.

## Authorised taxi (Sitio 300, Nueva Imagen, Porto Taxi, Yellow Cab)

Look for their **counters inside arrivals**. You pay in advance by zone. Fares are posted on the wall.

- Zone 1 (Centro Histórico, Roma, Condesa): **MXN 250–320**

- Zone 2 (Polanco, Coyoacán): **MXN 320–420**

- Zone 3 (Santa Fe, southern suburbs): **MXN 450–700**

Keep the receipt. Meet your driver at the marked stand — never accept "come with me" to a car outside.

## Uber / Didi / Cabify

All work. Uber pickup point at MEX is **outside arrivals in the designated zone** (currently the parking garage exits, floor 1 — check the app). Uber to Roma/Condesa: **MXN 180–260**.

## Metro / Metrobús

Line 5 stops at Terminal Aérea. Cheap (MXN 5) but not recommended with luggage — crowded, and the walk from the platform involves stairs. Metrobús Line 4 is better with a suitcase.

## The dangerous option: pirate taxis

Anyone approaching you inside the terminal offering a ride is unauthorised. Historically this has been the vector for express kidnapping — victims driven between ATMs to withdraw cash. Do not engage. The safe options above are cheap and abundant.
