Rome is one of Europe's more scam-prone airports. Follow this and you'll be fine.

## Leonardo Express train

Non-stop Fiumicino to Roma Termini. **€14 one-way**. 32 minutes. Every 15 min from 05:38 to 23:23. Buy at machines or via the Trenitalia app. Validate paper tickets before boarding.

## FL1 regional train (cheaper)

Also from FCO station. **€8**. Slower (45 min) and doesn't go to Termini — stops at Trastevere, Ostiense, and Tiburtina.

## Official taxi — €55 flat fare

Rome regulates a **€55 flat fare to inside the Aurelian walls** (i.e. the historic centre — Piazza di Spagna, Vatican, Colosseum, Trastevere all included).

Rules: the taxi must be a licensed **white Rome taxi** with a "COMUNE DI ROMA" shield on the door. Confirm the flat fare BEFORE getting in. The driver should not run the meter.

## The scam

Non-Rome taxis (from other municipalities) legally cannot charge the €55 flat fare. Some position themselves near the rank and charge €70–90 for the same trip. Others quote the €55 flat fare then run the meter anyway. See our [full FCO fare scam deep-dive](/blog/rome-fiumicino-taxi-scam-fixed-fare).

## Uber / FreeNow / itTaxi

Uber operates only in "Uber Black" mode in Rome — expensive. FreeNow and itTaxi both dispatch regular Rome taxis at the same €55 flat fare, which removes the negotiation entirely. Recommended.
