# Seoul Gimpo (GMP) to central Seoul: AREX, subway, taxi

## GMP is stupidly well-connected

Unlike Incheon (60+ min out), Gimpo Airport (GMP) is inside the Seoul metro area. Three rail options land you downtown in 20–40 minutes:

1. **AREX (Airport Railroad)** — ₩1,450 to Seoul Station, ~20 min. Cheapest fast option.
2. **Subway Line 5 / 9** — ₩1,350–1,500 to City Hall / Gangnam. Slower (~40 min) but no transfers to some destinations.
3. **KTX / GTX** (Gimpo doesn't have KTX — Seoul Station connection needed)

Buy a **T-money card** at any convenience store or airport kiosk. Load ₩10,000 and you're set for the whole trip.

## Taxi from GMP

Orange (regular) taxis to central Seoul run **₩15,000–25,000** metered. Black (deluxe) taxis are ~2x — avoid unless AREX has stopped for the night.

Use **Kakao T** to hail — it's the local Uber. English mode works. Payment via card, cash, or Kakao Pay.

## What to avoid

- Deluxe (black) taxi drivers claiming they're the 'only option' late at night — orange taxis run 24/7 at the airport rank
- Non-Kakao 'private cars' offering rides in the arrivals hall — always unlicensed
- Currency exchange at the airport counter (rates are terrible) — use a Wise/Revolut card or the airport ATM

## GMP vs ICN

If you have a choice, GMP wins on transit time to central Seoul but has fewer international routes. ICN is 60+ km out; budget 90 min door-to-door via AREX Express (₩9,500).
