# Uber at Osaka Itami (ITM): what works, what doesn't

## The short answer: skip Uber at ITM

Osaka Itami Airport (ITM) handles domestic flights only, sits 10 km from central Osaka, and has excellent rail and bus connections. Uber operates in Osaka (as licensed-taxi dispatch, not UberX), but for the ITM run it's the worst-value option.

## What to actually take

1. **Osaka Monorail + Hankyu line** — ¥430–500, ~25 min to Umeda. This is the local move.
2. **Airport Limousine Bus** — ¥650 to Umeda / Namba / Shin-Osaka. Runs every 15 min, luggage-friendly, drops at the major hotels. Best for first-timers with bags.
3. **Metered taxi** — ¥6,000–8,000 to central Osaka. Only worth it if you're a group of 3–4 splitting.

## If you really want a ride app

**GO** and **DiDi** are the dominant Japanese taxi-hailing apps. Both work at ITM. English mode available. Payment via card or cash; no tipping. Fare is metered — same as flagging a curbside taxi.

Uber in Osaka dispatches licensed taxis (no UberX), so you're paying app fees on top of an already high metered fare. GO is usually cheaper.

## Common mistake

Booking ITM when you meant Kansai International (KIX). ITM = domestic. KIX = international. If your inbound flight is international, you're at KIX, and the transport advice is completely different (Nankai / JR Haruka / limo bus).
